The animated history of Korea in a nutshell.

The first mention of Korea surfaces in Chinese chronicles before Koreans start to write down their history. Chinese - name them barbarians.

Koreans however, derive their beginnings from the realm of Choson, and its ruler the legendary Dangun.

After some time, Chinese influence weakens and some statelets dominate others. Until the first century AD, three dominant states appear. Silla, Goguryeo, and Baekje.

The period of three kingdoms competing for power begins. Time passes. Baekje imitating the Chinese model gains strength and attacks Goguryeo.

After a while, China unites under the Sui dynasty, then Sui invades Goguryeo however, fails and is taken over by the Tang dynasty in China.

Silla partners with the new Tang China, and conquers the peninsula by force in 668. Baekje and Goguryeo are beaten.

China, however, wants the peninsula for itself. A war starts and in 678 Silla finally wins and drives away the foreign troops. Formally, it will recognize Chinese superiority. United Silla will rule the peninsula for the next 267 years.

In the 1930s, military dictate returns. Peninsula is exploited for produce, recruits and workers. The war in China, however, makes Korea unnoticeable to the media.

Japan forces Koreans to worship Shinto and change their names in Japanese style. Everything Korean is forbidden.

When the Pacific War breaks out, the Korean government officially declares war on Japan and raises an army in China.

The Japanese occupation ends in 1945 when the Soviets march in from the north and the US army from the south. Tale of genji or kim il sung, maybe hanja, find out what this is! moon jae-in
